What do you think of when you hear the word “catnip”? I’m sure you think of the stuff that makes cats go crazy, but funnily enough, catnip tea is great for us humans too.
The catnip herb grows in Europe, and is a part of the mint family. The plant also grows wildly in Canada and the U.S. You can brew the tea just like any other ordinary tea, but its benefits are surprisingly not ordinary at all.
What Does Catnip Do?
Catnip tea can treat a wide range of issues. For one, catnip is great for anxiety and restlessness. Sipping on this tea at bedtime is perfect for calming down the body and getting you fast asleep. Moreover, catnip tea is great for gas, cramps, and even colic in babies. While all of these benefits sound like the answer to all of your problems, be careful of nausea and vomiting. You should also use it with children and babies with caution, as it can cause them to be uncomfortable if you give them too much.
Catnip tea is also a great addition to your pantry during cold and flu season. Along with its ability to relieve stress and anxiety, it can also relieve the annoying symptoms of the common cold.
Catnip Tea Taste
Like most herbal teas, catnip is earthy and has a grassy taste to it. A great way to reveal its minty and citrus flavor is to let it cool with a bit of lemon in it.
Just A Reminder
At the end of the day, herbal tea is not a solution to any serious medical problems. Consuming too much catnip can be dangerous for humans. It should be used in moderation. When dealing with children especially, consult a doctor for solutions first! Allergies and sensitivities are important to keep in mind when searching for natural remedies!
